Criminal Activities with a Gambling Backdrop

From filth to wealth.

Being owned by thugs, the casinos were blamed for instigating crime. This thought had undergone a complete turnaround because today most of the crimes were committed against the casino or gambling outlets. Here are six cases on crimes scenes related to gambling that I had covered.

  • Cheating the Casino with Edge Sorting
The awareness of the eye in the sky had not deterred crooks from cheating the casino. A team of four involving two dealers attempted to cheat the casino with edge sorting, but they were caught after weeks of observation.
  • Serial Cheaters at Casinos
Cheating becomes more daring as it moves from casinos to casinos. A team tried to pull off a chip forgery scam by taking advantage of the camera's blind spot. Their suspicious activities were recorded and observation nailed down their plot.
  • Violence at Betting Shops
Sore losers will not hesitate to lash out their anger at the gambling machines. They would return with destructive tools such as hammer or axe to cause greater damage.
  • Murdered at the Bookies
The ferocity had got out of hand and it resulted in the death of a manager of a betting shop's employee. Such viciousness in the casino was unheard of during the thug-protected era.
  • Arm Robbery at Betting Shop
Since the casino is rich, it had attracted armed robbers.
  • Cruelty for the Sake of Gambling
This is unique case in which the crime is not against the casino. It is an account of a woman who neglected here 4-year-old daughter for the sake of gambling.

Now that the casino is a nice legal outfit, people dare to commit crime against the casinos. Facing the law is anytime better than the mobs. Regulatory changes had transformed the casinos into dominant institutions of capital and government.

Cruelty for the Sake of Gambling

Women behind bars.

Mother leaves daughter in the car to gamble for 8 hours. The little girl had not taken lunch or dinner when the mother got back thanks to the rescue team.

Whatever good fortune gained from the casino (if any) would be offset by the charges laid against her for leaving a confined and unattended child under the age of 8, neglect of a minor and child abuse.

Sweetness of the Forbidden Fruit

Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati

Gamblers below the age of 21 are now allowed to enter the casino in the state of Ohio if they are escorted by a state-licensed employee. The Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati was the only casino among the other four casinos in Ohio that operates according to this policy. Perhaps the other three operators prefer to stay at the sideline to make further observation.

With Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati implementing the policy, the inquisitiveness and eagerness of minors can now be satisfied. Sneaking in to casinos will no longer be necessary now that minors are allowed to gamble.

The judgment of the legislators is in question because the move is not viable from an economic and social point of view. It is doubtful that this policy will continue or see further abuse as there were a few grey areas.
